I have to apologise because I have been missing in action since last week taking a little break from the JK Daily blog. However, what i cannot apologise for is how much fun i had on my break (aka work break) in Spain, Lanzarote. As you can see from the pictures, to say i was spoilt is an understatement. Loved it. Now, let’s continue were we left off. Today’s blog is about the word ‘ENJOY’ which my personal acronym definition is – E.N.J.O.Y- Everything needs justification over the years! How many people are excited about their day? Not many, I’m afraid. In fact, when they start their day many people tend to think about the entire burden they are going to face about the boring routine they are going to do. Only a few people are happy about their day, let alone excited about it.
But of course, life will be more wonderful if we are excited about our days. Think about how different it will be if you go through your day with passion and enjoyment. Your enthusiasm will energize not just you but also other people around you!
Each day we come across beauty in a number of shapes, forms, and situations. It’s a shame, then, that many people have become so accustomed to this beauty that it largely goes unappreciated. In order to enjoy this beauty over the years, you need to appreciate life, food, people, plants, gadgets, and buildings around you by taking a moment to appreciate what makes them so special. Two years ago I found out a secret garden park next to my house. I couldn’t believe that it existed as I had driven past this park for years and never knew that it was filled with so much nature. Nature is an amazing healer for the stresses and strains of modern life. Eating lunch in the park, watching the sunset, or appreciating your rights to choice are just a few simple ideas for how you can enjoy life on a daily basis. The poet e.e. cummings once said, ‘The most wasted of all days is one without laughter.’ How very true. Never be too busy to laugh or too serious to smile. Instead surround yourself with fun people and don’t get caught up in your own sense of importance. You don’t need all the money in the world to start enjoying life. Below are ten things you can start to do right now to seriously enjoy your life.
(a). Have Simple Pleasures. Enjoy a good breakfast in the morning. Time spent playing with my elder sister’s son Dominic is so enriching. These may not seem terribly exciting, but they are some of the simple pleasures I enjoy in life. If you slow down for just a moment and take the time to appreciate these ordinary events, life becomes instantly more enjoyable.
(b). Connect with People and Greet People First. In so many ways, it is our relationships with people that give us the most happiness in life. No man is an island; connect with your loved ones. The best way to enjoy your work more is not to get a raise or a promotion but rather to build rewarding relationships with your co-workers. When you build rewarding relationships with your co-workers, you would naturally be promoted, as a much-loved person is always an essential asset. Always greet people first. Think about what an excited person will do when they meet someone. Will she or he just keep silent or wait for the other person to greet first? Most likely, an excited person will greet other people first. They just have too much energy.
(c). Celebrate Your Successes. During a normal day we are sure to have some minor successes. Perhaps you have successfully dealt with a difficult customer, made a sale, or received a nice compliment from your teacher or fellow student. These aren’t events worth throwing a party for, but why not take a moment to celebrate your success? Share the experience with someone else, reward yourself with a nice lunch, or just give yourself a mental pat on the back.
(d). Feel Music and Not Just Listen to It. Do you know how much a piece of good music can change your mood? It could be classical, pop, hip hop, dance, or whatever gets you in the mood. Start actually feeling and really enjoying the music you listen to.
(e). Enjoy Your Meal. Don’t just eat. Taste it and appreciate its richness.
(f). Taking Pictures. Also browse your photo album for your treasured memories.
(g). Smile. The mere act of smiling will make you feel better about your day. Believe me; it is more difficult to think about how bad your day is when you are smiling.
(h). Find Simple Wonders. It’s hard to be excited if you are drowned in a routine and doing the same thing again and again. Life doesn’t have to be so routine. Be observant and look at your surroundings. Find simple beauties in the breeze of the air or how people do things. Break the routine by looking for simple wonders here and there. There are a lot of them waiting to be found. Find free stuff to do that would cost you northing. I once went through the whole of London as a tourist, and I experienced the London we all take for granted. I went to the museums, the free exhibitions, and the like. The beauty of our country is often unappreciated.
(i). Exercise. Exercising in the morning before doing your other activities will make you physically fit to face the day. It will boost your energy level and make it much easier to maintain enthusiasm in anything you do.
(j). Learn to Enjoy what You are Doing. Sometimes you don’t get to do things you are passionate about. However you can still be excited about your day by learning to enjoy what you are doing. Even if you don’t like something, you can still learn to enjoy it.
