The Noisettes and Lily Allen have each grabbed four nominations for the inaugural Download Music Awards.
The ceremony, which will be webcast live on October 3 from the Wandsworth Palais in London, will be part of this year’s British Music Week and hundreds of thousands of music fans have already been voting for their favourite artists.
As the popularity of downloading continues to boost the singles market to record levels, more than 200,000 music fans have been nominating their favourite acts for 11 categories. Allen has four nominations, including best album, best music video, best female act and best single, while the Noisettes get nods in the album, video and single categories, as well as best newcomers.
Other categories include best pop act, best download music site, best online magazine and best male act, while the outstanding achievement and lifetime achievement awards are yet to be announced.
Organised by marketing, media and live events company Invincible Group, the awards will be part of the 5th annual British Music Week, which will involve a series of conferences, seminars, awards show and workshops dedicated to the music industry and music fans during the week of October 1-7.
Invincible Group senior president and executive producer of the awards Jordan Kensington says, “Music downloads have become the fastest route for real music fans from All Around The World to purchase music and support new bands. It’s about time this sector of the market is embraced as a popular trend here to stay.”
